"Just Like Heaven"

Film: Just Like Heaven
Genre: Comedy, romance
Director: Mark Waters
Cast: Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo

Review:
When David moves to his new apartment, after his wife death, the last thing he want to found there is company, but surprinsingly Elizabeth shows up with the idea that the apartment was hers...until she disappears right in front his eyes. He is convinced she is a spirit, on the other hand she is convinced she is still alive.
After a long time trayin to understand things, David agrees to figure out who Elizabeth really is. While they are trying to find some clues together, their reationship changed from resentment to love.
Unfortunately things take a turn for the worse when the hospital and Elizabeth's sister follow her wishes to not artificially prolong life and take her off life support.

Mark Ruffalo’s performances is amazingly perfect, he surprised as every time with his unexpectedly actions, but at the end, he undoubtly touched our hearts with the most unexpectedly, beautiful and romantc love action of all times.

This film change the wrong thought that love depends on destiny and teachs us that, on the contrary, DESTINY depends on LOVE, specially if you love with every peace of your heart.

Death becomes her

Film: Death becomes her (1992)
Genre: Comedy
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Actors: Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, Goldie Hawn, Isabella Rossellini

Review:

Actress Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep) and writer Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn) are long time rivals. Helen's life falls apart when Madeline steals her fiancé, plastic surgeon Ernest Menville (Bruce Willis), and marries him. Helen becomes an obese, depressed woman.

Many years later Ernest become an alcoholic and miserable in his marriage, and he has been reduced to working restoring the looks of celebrities for their funerals. When Madeline and Helen meet again, Helen appears misteriously rejuvenated and thin.
Madeline, jealous of Helen, searchs for help of Lisle von Rhoman (Isabella Rossellini), who claims she has discovered the secret of eternal youth. She offers Madeline a magical potion to reverse the process of aging.
Meanwhile, Helen has seduced Ernest and conspired with him to kill Madeline. Before their elaborate plan can be carried out, Madeline falls down the stairs and breaks her neck, but she gets up and puts her head on straight. Ernest thinks that her resurrection is a miracle, and uses his skills to repair the damage done to Madeline's body.

Helen, thinking that Madeline is dead, arrives at the house, but Madeline shoots Helen. When Helen, with an enormous shotgun wound in her stomach, reawakens, Madeline guesses correctly that Helen was also a customer of Lisle's. The two undead rivals fight, but fail to do any real damage. Finally, the two ladies reconcile their differences and beg Ernest to repair their damaged bodies. Ernest agrees on the condition that he never see them again after the work is done. However, Madeline and Helen discover that his repairs are only temporary. They conspire to make Ernest drink the potion as well. Although Lisle makes an impassioned argument for immortality, Ernest refuses the potion, stating that a life lived forever is worthless.

In trying to escape, Ernest finds himself on the roof of the house. He slips and his suspenders get caught on the rain gutter, swinging him over an open pit. Madeline and Helen implore that he drink the potion so he will survive. Ernest refuses again, lets the potion fall, and then falls from the gutter. With Ernest, Helen and Madeline realize that they are now forced to take care of each other forever.

I think that is a very original movie, it's different from the other typical comedies. It is not a new film, but the effects are perfect for that year, when the technology was more difficult to use than now. Actually, the film won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
The movie is very funny and it's perfect to see in family on a Sunday afternoon!

UP

Film: UP
Genre: Animation, Comedy
Author/Director: Pete Docter and Bob Peterson
Characters: Carl Fredricksen, Ellie, Russell, Charles Muntz, Dug, Beta

Review:
The film is about Carl Fredricksen, who met Ellie, the love of his life, when they were very young. They share the same interest in exploration as their hero, famed explorer Charles Muntz.
Carl and Ellie grow old together, keeping since kids their dream of a house in Paradise Falls, in South America. Just as they seem to finally be able to take their trip, Ellie dies of old age. After a long time Carl decided to keep his promise to Ellie, and uses his old professional supplies to create a makeshift airship using tens of thousands of helium balloons which lift his house off its foundations. But in the porch was Russell, a Wilderness Explorer who was trying to help Carl to earn his final merit badge.
Finally, Carl and Russell start to understand to each other and, with a little help of a big storm, they find themselves in Paradise Falls. They live a lot of adventures and also met Charles Muntz, who is not like Carl think it would be.
This film is hillarious, but it also have details that make the story more 'real'. The sadness of Carl for loosing his wife is very touching.
It's perfect to see in family, because parents and kids will enjoy it!

My mom's new boyfriend

Book/ Film: My mom's new boyfriend
Genre: Comedy/Romance
Author/ Director: George Gallo
Characters/ Actors: Antonio Banderas as Tommy, Meg Ryan as Marty, Collin Hanks as Henry, Selma Blair as Emily.

Review:

I chose this film because I really enjoyed it. It tells the story of a man named Henry who lives with his widowed, ugly and fat mother, Marty, and works for the FBI. After a journey of three years for a very secret investigation, he goes back to his house and finds out something incredible: his mother had been going on a diet and she was trully thin and very attractive! They inmediately started talking about their lives and Henry told her that he was engaged with a lovely woman who worked with him called Emily, who was arriving at the house some hours later. Marty took the most of the moment, and told him that she had been going on some dates, not only one, but lots at the same time! From that moment, the story turns so funny because it's all about meeting Marty's dates, but the real story begins when she knows a man named Tommy and falls in love with him. But the problem turns up when Henry discovers that the man is suspected of leading a gang of art thieves, and he is forced to spy her mother even in the most awkward situations.

In my opinion, this film is really nice and is so appropriated for the whole family, and I have to say that I had a great time when I saw it. I think the characters did a great job and so did the director.

The Reader

Film: "The Reader"
Genre: Drama, Romance
Director: Stephen Daldry
Actors: David Kross, Kate Winslet and Ralph Finnes

Review:

“The Reader” starts when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped by Hanna Schmitz, a stranger who twice his age. When Michael recovers from the illness he decided to go to Hanna’s apartment to thanks her. The two quickly fall into a passionate and secretive affair which is a short step from pedophilia. Apart from the sex they create a reader-listener relationship when Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to (origin of the movie’s name) and Hanna is surprised as how Michael reads to her. Despite their intense relationship, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken.
Eight years later, while Michael is a law student, he is astonished to find Hanna back in his life but this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hanna's past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will save her from being unfairly accused.

As we are accustomed, the performance of Kate Winslet is exactly what the film needs.
What is really remarkable is David Kross acting. He incredibly impressed me with his catching personality and his ability to register multiple emotions and thoughts which are complicated, especially during the trial scenes. He is, without a doubt my favorite character.

In my view “The reader” is a haunting story about truth and reconciliation, which offer a different love story as the ones that we are accustomed to watch.

Matilda

Book/ Film: Matilda
Genre: Comedy
Author/ Director: Danny DeVito.
Characters/ Actors: Mara Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, Embeth Davidtz, Pam Ferris and Brian Levinson.

Review:

Matilda tells the story of a very clever girl callad Matilda. She could read and write when she was 3 years old. Her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood didn`t understood her because they lived their own life, he sold second hand cars dishonestly and her mother went out with her friends. The first person who realised that she was so clever was the libralian. Matilda went to the library every day and read books about Math, Oscar Wilde etc.
When she entered primary school her teacher Miss Honey thought she couldn't be in first grade because of her intelligence so she went to speak with her parents and they reacted telling her to leave their house immediately.
Miss Truchbull was the headmistress of the school, hje was very rude, strict and bad person, nobody loved her. She was really Miss Honey's aunt and although Miss Honey's father had left her money and very nice house, Miss Honey lived in a small house with little money, so Matilda wanted to help her.
One day Matilda discovered she had special powers. At first her teacher didn't believe them but one day she could show them to her.
Finally thanks to Matilda's powers Miss Honey recovered her house, Miss Trunchbull never appeared at school again and Miss Honey adopted Matilda as her daughter because Matilda's parents were going to lived to other country and Matilda didn't want.
I think this is a very interesting story thet shows me that a little gril who was always alone and not loved, colud be appreaciated and considered by her teacher, because of that Matilda went on livinig in a better way.

The Notebook

Book/ Film: The Notebook
Genre: Drama - Romance
Author/ Director: Nicholas Sparks Characters/ Actors: Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, Gena Rowlands, James Garner, James Marsden, San Shepard, Joan Allen

Review:

Is story about two young people in the 1940s who fall in love and endure life.

They are Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling) who fall in love when they were teenangers. The young couple is quickly separated by Allie's upper-class parents who insist that Noah isn't right for her. Several years passed and Allie Nelson, twenty-nine, is now with another man, but realizes that the original passion she felt for Noah has not dimmed with the passage of time. But when they meet again, their passion is reborn, forcing Allie to choose between her soul mate and class order. This beautiful tale has a particularly special meaning to an older gentleman (James Garner) who regularly reads the timeless love story to his aging companion (Gena Rowlands).

Is a great movie, especially if you like love movies! I don’t usually watch tv or go to the cinema, but there are specific films that I can’t stop watching, and one of them is “The Notebook”.
