You`re Next

Film: You're next
Genre: Terror
Director: Adam Wingard
Actors: AJ Bowen, Joe
Swanberg, Sharni Vinson.
Review:
YOU’RE NEXT
The new film of Adam Wingard was presented in 2011 Toronto film festival. The film have already
been released in USA cinemas, but for the rest of the countries will arrived on
the first days of 2012. This new film has a really good cast, which is
integrated by: AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Sharni Vinson.
The plot takes place at a rural family home where middle-aged Aubrey and
Paul have invited their four adult children and partners to enjoy a weekend,
mix with a lot of food, wine and middle-class disses.
There are surprises, sudden shocks and lot
of laughs. But when you thought the arguments might become a little familiar,
an arrow crashes through the dining room window and plants a lot of uncertainty,
more arrows come flying in and the terrified convocation must organise fast or
face certain death. There is when the main course begins.

The actors were very good, and you ccan see that there have existed a good
relationship between them while they were filming. The story reminds to a fair
old clip, but You're Next, with it dark corners and electronic score in the
background, has already establish itself as the favourite terror film of this
and next year.
As I have said, it is a great film and you must go to the cinema to see it
and absolutely don’t miss it.

The Cutting Edge 2: Going for the gold

Book/ Film: "The Cutting Edge 2: Going for the gold"
Genre: Romantic comedy
Author/ Director: Sean McNamara
Characters/ Actors:Ross Thomas and Christy Carlson Romano.

Review:
“ The Cutting Edge 2: going for the gold” is a romantic comedy film which is starred by Ross Thomas and Christy Carlson Romano. It was filmed in the USA in 2006 and directed by Sean McNamara. The film lasts 98 minutes and it should be watched by people over thirteen years-old.

“The Cutting Edge 2” tells a story about Jackie Dorsey (Christy Romano) who is competing to win the Olympic gold in ice-skating but, in her performance, she falls and brakes her leg. She is so depressed because she is only thinking about winning that prize, so her father invites her to go on holidays. There, Jackie meets Alex (Ross Thomas), a good-looking surfer guy, who helps her to return to the competition. However, everything is not so easy. Although they fall in love with each other, an ex Alex’s girlfriend appears.

Ross and Christy had to learn to skate professionally before filming the film because they only had stuntmen in very difficult tricks. Much of the time in the film they are skating, for example, when they are preparing their performance for the regional competition, in the Olympic competition, and so on.

The costume design in Cutting Edge 2 emphasizes Jackie and Alex characters in daily life and it’s different and special in every performance they do, it really helps you to know the personality of the characters.

I think it’s a great option if you want to watch something different and original mixed with an amazing sport like ice-skating is. I recommend this film because it is not static like others films, in stead of this, it has a lot of changes throughout the film which makes you want to continue watching it.

THE GREEN MILE

-Book/ Film: The Green Mile
-Genre:Drama film
- Author/ Director: Frank Darabont
-Characters/ Actors:Tom Hanks, David Morse, Bonnie Hunt, Michael Clarke Duncan, Harry Dean Stanton and James Cromwell
-Review:

The Green Mile is a american drama film directed by Frank Darabont and adapted by him from the 1996 Stephen King novel of the same name. The film is told in a flashback format and stars Tom Hanks as Paul Edgecomb and Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey, and tells the story of Paul and his life as a death row corrections officer during the Great Depression in the United States. This movie was filmed in Louisiana, United States.

The plot of this movie, Paul Edgecomb worked in was called the "Green Mile" by the guards, because the condemned prisoners walking to their execution are said to be walking "the last mile" to the electric chair. One prisoner call, John Coffey, he is a farmer, gian and blackmen; he stay here because, he killing two young white girls. He demostrates that he is not a killer, opposite john, fearing darkness, and crying almost constantly for apparently no reason. One day, John reveals extraordinary powers by healing Paul urinary tract infection and resurrecting a mouse. The wife's of the boss of Paul has a problem cereveral, John with his powers try to cure her.

In my opinion the acting of Tom Hanks was exceptional, and Michael Clarke Duncan was exeptional, but background music was dispointing. And the direction played was a principal role in this movie.

One a scene, when John electrocuted in the chair was very exciting, but has very bad special effects and the music was not appropriate for that time.Other scene is when the mouse, called Mr. bells dies, is saddest scene that I've ever seen from this movie.

A film is infused with an expansive, and transmits a sadness and sorrow , sometimes I have the impression that John is going to died in few minutes.
If you want to watch a movie to cry this is indicated...

City of God

Book/ Film: City of God
Genre: Drama

Author/ Director: Fernando Meirelles

Characters/ Actors: Alexandre Rodrigues, Douglas Silva

Review:

The City of God is a Fernando Meirelles’s film. This movie is from 2002. Their main actors are Alexandre Rodrigues known as “Cohete” and Douglas Silva as “Ze Pequeño.” This film was shot in a “favela” of Rio de Janeiro” between 2001 and 2002. It is a drama film.

This film shows the different problems of poor people living in a favela. It’s star talking about how poor people have to moved to a favela of Rio de Janeiro because they haven’t enough money to pay a rent in the city. It also talks about the increase in organized crime, drugs and violence. At the beginning of the movie they show us who will be the main characters, a boy called “Cohete” who wants to be a cameraman and another boy called “Ze Pequeño” who wants to be a gangster and a drug dealer.

The scenery of City of God is amazing, most of time of the film passes in the favela but sometimes are shown parts of the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro which is awesome, its beaches are nice with white sand and the blue water of the sea.

Respect the acting and the actor there is nothing to say, they are marvelous, most of the actors were from the favela in which the film was recorded, because the director had to talk with the boss of the favela which allowed them to shoot the film with the only condition that they will put people from the favela in the movie, which also helps to give more credibility to the story.

In my Opinion City of God is an excellent movie and I recommend to see it, the actors behaved like really professionals, the scenery is really amazing, also the film was bases on a real story. This movie also show you how poor people live, and the tings they have to support, the difficulties that they have and so. The phrase that identified the movie was “Fight and never survive ... Run and never escape”.

I really enjoyed watching this movie and if possible I will watch it again.

Monsters Inc

Film: Monsters Inc.

Genre: Animation

Director: Pete Docter

Characters: Animation Characters

Main voices: Billy Crystal as Michael Wazouski and John Goodman as James Sullivan

Monsters, Inc. is an animated film produced by Pixar and premiered in cinemas by Walt Disney Pictures and Buena Vista International on November 2, 2001.

The film takes place in a city of monsters in which the most important rule is that the monsters have no contact with humans in their job. The monsters work in a factory of "scares", called Monster Inc., of which they get energy for their city scaring children while they are sleeping.

James Sullivan and Michael Wazouski are the main characters; they are best friends and very funny monsters. They have a very special connection between them so they spend much of their lives together but there will be something that it’ll change their lives forever. Both get in a serious problem with Boo, a small human girl who came into the monster’s world by mistake. Sullivan and Wazouski will have to take care of the girl, hiding her from the company and then return her quickly to the human’s world.

I particularly recommend it to spend time together with the whole family, kids will have fun with the adventures of these friendly monsters and adults will join them and enjoy the movie. It has a good mixture of feelings like nostalgia, happiness, worry. You will never know what is going to happen. It will always keep an atmosphere of surprise until the end.

The notebook

Film: The notebook
Genre: Romantic
Director: Nick Cassavetes
Characters/ Actors:

• Ryan Gosling as Young Noah Calhoun
• Rachel McAdams as Young Allie Hamilton
• James Garner as Older Noah Calhoun
• Gena Rowlands as Older Allie Calhoun

Review:
The film opens with an older man reading out of a notebook to another woman who is sick, a story between two young lovers; The story dates back to the summer of 1940 in Seabrook, South Carolina.

Noah (Ryan Gosling) is a local boy who works at the lumber mill and Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) is a girl about seventeen years old, from a wealthy family spending the summer in Seabrook. At a carnival, Allie meets Noah Calhoun, first she doesn’t look him but later she falls in love. Her family doesn’t agree with the relationship between Allie and Noah, they think that she would be with a rich man. Over the summer, Noah and Allie fall passionately in love and spend every moment together.

But then they break up, but immediately regret the decision. Allie's family leaves Seabrook the next day and Noah, devastated, writes her one letter every day for a year, which Allie's mother hides. After Allie doesn't reply to him, Noah moves to Atlanta. When Pearl Harbor is attacked, he enlists in the army for World War II while Allie attends college.

I think that it is a beautiful and emotional romantic movie . This movie felt involved in the situations and the lives of the character- crying at the sad moments and feeling cheerful. In general, love stories are predictable but this movie kept me guessing at the outcome, and delivered twists throughout the whole film. The Notebook was extremely well constructed. All the costume designe and the stage are fantastic. The actors are so great, i have watched a lot of movies where they worked and they are amazing.

Alice in Wonderland

Film: "Alice in Wonderland"

Genre: adventure, family, fantasy

Director: Tim Burton

Actors: Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonhman Carter and Anne Hathaway

Review:

“Alice in Wonderland” is a Tim Burton’s film based on Lewis Carroll’s book. It is set in an imaginary world where animals and flowers can talk and think. This award winning film is starred by amazing actressees and actors like Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter.

The new version of this story starts when Alice is eighteen and not ten like we are used to, and she returns to the Wonderland. She feels that she was there before but Alice can’t remember. The teenager must face different adventures, full of magic and fantasy.

In “Alice in Wonderland” like in all Tim Burton’s films, we recognize an artsy film, focus in the costume design which is always fantastic. In this opportunity Tim Burton chose Colleen Atwood like his costume designer. Colleen explained that his costume design is divided in three parts: animated characters, the Wonderland and Victorian England. She said that she did a lot of research for creating the perfect design. Atwood also confessed that this film was the best of her life. In the other hand, Sony Pictures Image works was the responsible of the special effects and sets. Some famous artists, sets designer and specialist in Victorian England and in imaginary creatures collaborated with them in this work.

I am happy to report that Tim Burton’s new version of the Lewis Carroll's book is one of the best films in 2010. In spite of the challenge that has a 3D movie, this production won the respect of others. One of the biggest problems with 3D cinematography is the tendency for objects, not only to become smaller as they move away from the camera, but to lose their dimensional stability. Burton doesn’t solve the problem, but he adapts it to his subject matter. For these reasons and too many others, I think “Alice in Wonderland” deserves the golden Oscar.

Water for elephants

Film: Water for elephants.
Genre: Romantic.
Director: Francis Lawrence.
Actors: Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.

Review:
Water for elephant is Francis Lawrence. This film is set in the 30s. The protagonists are Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.

When Jacob`s father died, he decided to go away aimlessly. In his way he met the famous Benzini Brother’s circus and Marlena, the owner’s wife and the trainer of Rose, the elephant. This leaded to a typical impossible love story. The climax occurs when the circus´ owner finally found them and the film ends unexpectedly.

The director achieved an excellent thirties´ ambience with great costumes.

Pattinson and Witherspoon play the roles of Jacob and Marlena very consistently and convincingly. In the scene where they finally kiss each other they reach their highest acting level.

In my opinion this mainstream film is very good. I recommend it.

Fast and Furious 5

Film: FAST AND FURIOUS 5

Genre: Action
Author/ Director: Justin Lin
Characters/ Actors: Paul Walker, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson

Review:
The Fast and Furious saga is back again for a new action film directed by Justin Lin. The main actors are Paul Walker, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson. The cool cars are there, the beautiful women and the slick action too.

The plot this time takes ex-cop Brian O´Conner (Walker), Dom Toretto (Diesel) and his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) and friend Vince (Matt Schulze) and places them in Brazil for a high-risk car boost. The stars of the first Fast and Furious movie are going to carry out a revenge on a criminal that made their life horrible. Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang and Gal Gadot are just some of the famous stars that were specially inveted to take part in the film.

I have seen the whole saga but this last film stand out fom the rest, because of the action it has. Also the acting is really good, and you can see that there was a big effort from all the people that are involved with the film.

If you are a fan of the previous films you won´t be disappointed, because it is a very interesting and entertaining film.

Pearl Harbor

Review:
Pearl Harbor is a Michael Bay film which is set in World War II, the main actors are Ben Affleck (Rafe McCawley), Josh Hartnett ( Danny Walker), Kate Beckinsale (Evelyn Johnson), Alec Baldwin ( Jimmy Doolittle), Tom Sizemore (Earl Sistern). It is a dramatic revision of the events in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.The final part of the movie relates the Doolittle Raid, the first U.S. attack on Japanese islands in the Second World War.

The movie begins in Nowheresville where two young friends dreamed of becoming fighter pilots. When war eventually breaks out in Europe and Asia the two friends realise their dream and sign up for the air force.Rafe soon falls in love with a nurse who passed the medical examination of income, but decides to go to Europe to fight in the war with the American squad. While Rafe fight in Europe his friend Daniel is sent to Pearl Harbor Islands where he falls for his friend's girlfriend.Evelyn and Daniel fall in love thinking that Rafe had died in Europe, when Rafe returns from Europe start a confrontation with the naval forces of Japan which objective was destroy the American Pacific fleet after the Japanese attack Rafe and Daniel along with other soldiers carried out a bombing in Tokyo.

The music of the film is by Hans Zimmer, the background music is very well set according to the time and situation of the story. The film has different styles of music, has romantic music for the scenes between the actors.

The movie has a lot of special effects, being one of the first films made about World War II.The use of special effects gives the story more real and makes it more appealing. No special effects were used only if they used this in addition to a large number of double, and the use of similar models of aircraft and ships used at that time.

I recommend this movie for fans of modern war films because the effects are very good and because the actors play their role well.

Freaky Friday

Film: Freaky Friday

Genre: Comedy, fantasy and family.

Director: Mark Waters

Actors: Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis

Review: “Freaky Friday” is a comedy, fantasy and family film which is starred by Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. It was filmed in the USA in 2003 and the film was directed by Mark Waters who directed other famous films like “Mean Girls”.

“Freaky Friday” tells a story about the bad relationship between a mother, Tess Coleman, and her daughter, Anna Coleman. They argue very often because Tess and Anna think differently about life things such as the way of dressing, boys, music, etc. Anna’s father is dead and her mother is marrying another man in two days. That night, the family goes to a restaurant to have dinner but Anna and Tess have an argument because Mrs. Coleman doesn’t want Anna to play in a concert the night before her marriage. The waitress gives them a biscuit, Tess and Anna eat it and the next morning a strange magic swap their bodies.

The acting of Lohan and Curtis is wonderful because there are not special effects in the film and you really think they have their bodies swapped. For example, when they wake up in the morning and realized that they are caught in another body; in the scene where Tess has to play the guitar in Anna’s body and she doesn’t know how to do it; or when Anna has to work as a phycologist as her mother does everyday and she always uses the phrase: “How do you feel with it?”.

The costume design in Freaky Friday is very important because it emphasizes Anna and Tess’ characters. It shows Anna’s rebelliousness when she wears crazy t-shirts in her mother’s body and the old fashion clothes which Tess wears in her daughter’s body.

I think it is a very good film because it shows an every day life situation mixed with some science fiction to express what a mother and a daughter feel about each other. It is a film which is worth watching because it is very entertaining and, at the end, it has a moral. It is recommendable for people of all ages.

Pulp Fiction

Book/ Film: Pulp Fiction
Genre: Thriller
Author/ Director: Quentin Tarantino
Characters/ Actors: Jhon Travolta, Samuell L. Jackson, Uma Thuman
Review: Pulp Fiction is a Quentin Tarantino’s film. His avant premiere was in 1993 and from that moment it turned out to be very important in history of cinema. The script was written by Tarantino and Roger Avary and won an Oscar of best script and the Palm d’or on the Cannes Festival.

Pulp Fiction is a Thriller. The film contains three interconnected stories of crime and intrigue that take place in a modern-day. One short film is about a two thieves, a man and girl, who stole a restaurant. The other short film is about a boxer who kill an other boxer in a fight and he has to escape. And the last short film is about two gangsters, Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega, which have to kill a traitor. The lives of these seemingly unrelated people are woven together comprising of a series of funny, bizarre and uncalled-for incidents. All the details are executed to perfection.

The male caracters are Bruce Willies, Jhon Travolta, Samuell L. Jackson, Quentin Tarantino, and the actresses are Uma Thurman, Amanda Plummer, and others.

Pulp Fiction is the best film of Tarantino’s and is one of the best movies in the last twenty years. The perfection of the story, and the script are amazing. Pulp Fiction always will be a piece of art in the cinema.

INTO THE WILD

Book/ Film:INTO THE WILD

Genre: Drama film

Author/ Director: Sean Justin Penn

Characters/ Actors: Emile Hirsch, William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden and Catherine Ann Keener
Review: Into the Wild (also known as “camino salvaje”) is an American film written and directed by Sean Penn launched in 2007. The character is played by Emile Hirsch(Christopher McCandless), and William Hurt, (Oscar winner for best actor), Marcia Gay Harden, nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress and Catherine Keener.
This movie was filmed in the U.S.A. and north of Mexico(desert, beach,…)

The plot of this movie, Christopher decides to leave his home and sell his things (car...) and travel around the United States; with no money. The objective of Christopher is arriving to Alaska.
The film unfolds with flashbacks, in which they are interspersed with part of his journey to his past, and thus learn more about the history of Christopher.
Emile work was exceptional and intense. The director filmed a very entertaining film.

In my opinion the special-effects are disappointing, but the soundtrack was the best because was wake for Eddie Vedder (the lead singer, composer and leader of the American grunge group Pearl Jam).

In many cases I see a Christopher running in different parts of United States, these part was very exciting, or the part could not get food in Alaska and was about to go home and could not cross the river.

A film is infused with an expansive, almost giddy sense of possibility, and transmits a pure pleasure and natural open spaces, fresh air and bright sunlight; although, in the solitude of the boy, sometimes I gave the impression that he was not alone. Knew they were behind the cameras recorded.

Actually, I think it should have been nominated for best film.

He is convinced she is a spirit, on the other hand she is convinced she is still alive.

Mark Ruffalo’s performances is amazingly perfect, he surprised as every time with his unexpectedly actions, but at the end, he undoubtly touched our hearts with the most unexpectedly, beautiful and romantc love action of all times.

This film change the wrong thought that love depends on destiny and teachs us that, on the contrary, DESTINY depends on LOVE, specially if you love with every peace of your heart.

101 Dalmatians

Book/ Film: 101 Dalmatas
Genre: Animation/ Fantasy
Author/ Director: Clyde Geronimi
Characters/ Actors: Rod Taylor (Pongo)
Cate Bauer (Perdita)
Betty Lou Gerson (Cruella De Vil)
Ben Wright (Roger)
Lisa Davis (Anita)

Review:

Pongo is a dalmatian that lives in a London bachelor flat with his owner Roger Radcliffe, a songwriter. Bored with bachelor life, Pongo decides to find a wife for Roger and a mate for himself. While watching various female dog-human pairs out the window, he spots the perfect couple, a woman named Anita and her female dalmatian, Perdita. He quickly gets Roger out of the house and drags him through the park to arrange a meeting. Pongo accidentally causes both Roger and Anita to fall into a pond, but it works out well as the couple falls in love. Both the human couple and the dog couple marry.
Later, Perdita gives birth to 15 puppies. One almost dies, but Roger is able to revive it by rubbing it in a towel (because of which, they would name the pup, 'Lucky'). That same night, they are visited by Cruella De Vil, a wealthy former schoolmate of Anita's. She offers to buy the entire litter of puppies for a large sum, but Roger says they are not selling any of the puppies. Weeks later, she hires Jasper and Horace Badun to steal all of the puppies. When Scotland Yard is unable to prove she stole them or find the puppies, Pongo and Perdita use the "Twilight Bark", normally a canine gossip line, to ask for help from the other dogs in England.
Colonel, an old sheepdog, along with his compatriots Captain, a gray horse, and Sergeant Tibbs, a tabby cat, find the puppies in a place called Hell Hall (A.K.A The De Vil Place), along with other Dalmatian puppies that Cruella had purchased from various dog stores. Tibbs learns the puppies are going to be made into dog-skin fur coats and the Colonel quickly sends word back to London. Pongo and Perdita immediately leave London to retrieve their puppies. They arrive just as Horace and Jasper are about to kill the puppies. While the adult dogs attack the two men, Colonel and Tibbs guide them from the house.
After a happy reunion with their own puppies, the Pongos realize there are 84 other puppies with them. Horrified at Cruella's plans, they decide to adopt all of the puppies, certain that Roger and Anita would never reject them. The dogs begin making their way back to London, aided by other animals along the way, with Cruella and the Baduns giving chase. In one town, they cover themselves with soot so they appear to be labrador retrievers, then pile inside a moving van going back to London. As the van is leaving, melting snow clears off the soot and Cruella sees them. She follows the van in her car and rams it, but the Baduns, trying to cut off the van from above, end up colliding with her. Both vehicles crash into a deep ravine. Cruella yells in frustration as the van drives away.

Back in London, Roger and Anita are attempting to celebrate Christmas and Roger's first big hit, a song about Cruella, but they miss their canine friends. Suddenly barking is heard outside and after their nanny opens the door, the house is filled with dogs. After wiping away more of the soot, the couple is delighted to realize their companions have returned home. They decide to use the money from the song to buy a large house in the country so they can keep all 101 Dalmatians.

In my opinion, 101 dalmatians is a great Walt Disney film because it is very creative . Meeting people with dogs and showing the great relationship among them is very interesting. I love this movie and it´s highly recommended for all.
