Review:
“Alice in Wonderland” is a Tim Burton’s film based on Lewis Carroll’s book. It is set in an imaginary world where animals and flowers can talk and think. This award winning film is starred by amazing actressees and actors like Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter.
The new version of this story starts when Alice is eighteen and not ten like we are used to, and she returns to the Wonderland. She feels that she was there before but Alice can’t remember. The teenager must face different adventures, full of magic and fantasy.
In “Alice in Wonderland” like in all Tim Burton’s films, we recognize an artsy film, focus in the costume design which is always fantastic. In this opportunity Tim Burton chose Colleen Atwood like his costume designer. Colleen explained that his costume design is divided in three parts: animated characters, the Wonderland and Victorian England. She said that she did a lot of research for creating the perfect design. Atwood also confessed that this film was the best of her life. In the other hand, Sony Pictures Image works was the responsible of the special effects and sets. Some famous artists, sets designer and specialist in Victorian England and in imaginary creatures collaborated with them in this work.
I am happy to report that Tim Burton’s new version of the Lewis Carroll's book is one of the best films in 2010. In spite of the challenge that has a 3D movie, this production won the respect of others. One of the biggest problems with 3D cinematography is the tendency for objects, not only to become smaller as they move away from the camera, but to lose their dimensional stability. Burton doesn’t solve the problem, but he adapts it to his subject matter. For these reasons and too many others, I think “Alice in Wonderland” deserves the golden Oscar.
