- Review:
“The holiday” tells the story of two women: Iris and Amanda. On the one hand, Iris, a committed editor for “The daily telegraph newspaper”, is head over heels in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. On the other, Amanda, a successful editor of movie trailers, discovers that the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Surprisingly, two women who have never met find themselves in a similar and annoying situation. Feeling hopeless, both women decide to surf a “home exchange website” in order to trade homes, seeking a different and relieving experience. While Iris moves into a hyper modern and enormous house in California, Amanda arrives at a rustic and quiet cottage in England. Soon after settling down in those places, they find the last thing they expect: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris´ brother, Graham and Iris falls in love with Miles, a gifted film composer.
Moreover, the movie in question relies entirely on staggering performances, which show clearly why these actors and actresses are regarded as excellent, as well as on an entertaining and attention-grabbing plot.
On the whole, I believe firmly that “The holiday” is an extraordinary love story, where FATE plays a crucial role. Actually, it teaches that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and that our heart can be easily mended with love.
